How Fleksja works

Fleksja is an app to learn Polish words and train the endings that change with the case. Here is the problem it tackles, how it works, and what we are still testing.

Where things stand: Fleksja is still in development and not in the app stores yet. The practice demo on the main page already works, so you can try the exercise format. Before building the rest, we want to check that learners really want this, and your opinion is part of that.

The problem: every word has an ending

At beginner and intermediate level, building a sensible sentence in Polish is hard. Every word needs its own ending, and you have to choose it while you are still deciding what to say. That creates friction.

Learners usually end up in one of two places: long pauses and mistakes, or speaking only in the dictionary form of each word (the nominative). The second one works, people understand you, but it stays limited: you can name things and ask for them, but you cannot say much.

So the real challenge of Polish is getting the cases to come out on their own. That takes a lot of practice, together with a steady supply of new words to practise on.

Our approach: two skills, trained a little every day

Fleksja trains the two things that hold learners back, vocabulary and endings, in short sessions with practice aimed at your own weak spots.

1. Learn new words with flashcards

The flashcards start from the basics and move toward more abstract, more complete vocabulary, following the order of the usual study books. Each word comes with its forms (verbs as aspect pairs), so you meet the endings together with the word. Free, from A0.

2. Practise the ending in a sentence

Short sentences and longer ones, each with a gap. You choose the right ending from four options, and the wrong options are the mistakes learners actually make.

Nie mam ___ .

Every sentence comes with a grammar explanation of why that ending is the right one, so you do not just memorise answers, you understand the rule behind them.

3. It keeps track of your mistakes

When you get an ending wrong, the app takes note and brings you similar exercises later, right before you would forget. It also keeps a record of your progress, so you can see what has improved and what still trips you up.

Grammar always within reach

Inside the app there are whole sections dedicated to grammar in depth, with interactive illustrations and review cards. Every rule stays at hand, at the moment you need it.

The AI coach

The AI coach monitors your performance. It sees which cases and endings you get right and which keep tripping you up, and adapts your training to work on those first. Every week you get a progress report with your weakest endings.
